Day Fourteen – July 1, 2018 – Lake Ridge, Virginia
What a lovely, relaxed morning, especially after all the
hurry-scurry of getting ready to leave Chautauqua. There is enough left over taco stuff to
provide breakfast for Betsy and me, while Roddy and Kathy have English muffins
and pink grapefruit. And Dennis has made
lots of bacon and coffee and fried potatoes, so there is plenty to make
everyone happy!
 |
| Twink is one of the two resident cats. |
 |
| And Baby is her sister. |
Betsy was up really early and has already done her power
walk along the path that runs near the river behind Kathy’s house. She saw a small box turtle and a doe with
two fauns! I’m envious and she kindly
agrees to walk again with me! It’s
already pretty warm, but there is a lot of shade along most of the way.
We don’t see any deer;
but the turtle has made a little progress and he’s caught something for
lunch! And there are birds, most of whom
are elusive, and dragonflies, and there’s that virtuous feeling when we get
home!
 |
| Somewhere down there, there's a dam; but finding it in the summer is a bit of a trick! |
 |
| They look edible - but we were chicken! |
 |
| Yummy lunch - (I hope!) |
 |
| Elusive little monster! This was a good as it got! |
Kathy has planned several crockpot dinners and she and Betsy
select one for tonight. It is a chicken
dish topped with tarragon scones! It’s a
bit more complicated that I assume crockpot dishes should be, and they begin
the preparations early in the afternoon.
 |
| I love this big kitchen! |
 |
| And it looked even more delicious when it was done! |
We’ve gathered enough laundry for two loads, and it will be
such a treat to have clean jammies tonight, and clean everything tomorrow!!
 |
| Kathy collects art and signed, numbered prints. |
There is plenty of time for reading out on the screened in
porch, with a chilled glass of rose, and napping and catching up on email and
whatever.
 |
| Right in the back yard! |
 |
| And I hear that yesterday there were five! |
 |
| Let sleeping cats lie! |
 |
| Hey! Who is that I smell on this computer??? |
And then it’s time for wine
and dinner and a bit more wine!
The
chicken is a huge success!
There is
almost nothing left, so only one lucky person will have leftovers for breakfast
tomorrow!
 |
| This is a very nice malbec. |
 |
| This simply superb wine is aged three months in bourbon barrels! (Note to self - it's available at Total Wines in Clearwater and is worth the trip!) |
After dinner we catch up on
important things, like Trevor Noah and Stephen Colbert!
And even an episode of “Instinct”!
