Day Three – June 20, 2018 – on the way to Barbara’s in
Pittsburgh
Happy Birthday, Barbara!!
I’ve just discovered that blogger won’t let me edit anything
I’ve already posted – so please excuse any typos and oversights!!
We’re hoping to get on the road around seven, or, as Roddy
says, sometime between five and ten, this morning. We do a pretty good job and are out the door
around seven thirty. Today there will
nothing but driving, because we’re heading to Pittsburg and that’s about a
twelve-hour drive!
The idea is to drive for an hour or two, then stop for
breakfast at Cracker Barrel. They don’t
have Bob Evans’ banana bread, but the biscuits are good and Betsy gets catfish
with her eggs!
Back on the road and I continue to see wild mimosa trees
growing along the side of the road. So
beautiful!! And there’s a deer just
dashing into the woods.
On and on we go. One
of stop is at the Tennessee Welcome Station, which is much cooler than I would
have expected!

There’s another deer!
At another stop there are two ladies walking their rescue
dogs. One is very protective and, even
though I’m about ten feet away, he goes into his “You better stay away!”
routine.
As the day wears on the tummies start to growl we stop at
Subway for the Wednesday special. It’s
turkey breast, if you’re interested!!

Driving through West Virginia is less wonderful than the
rest of the trip. There is a lot of
construction and one-land travel. At one
point we even have to get off the interstate altogether and take a lengthy
detour. The man with the uniform and gun
seemed quite sure we needed to do this!

We've been listening to Carl Hiaasen's Razor Girl and we wrap up the story before we get into Pittsburgh, which is great! We don't have to remember the plot line until we're back on the road on Saturday!
It’s still drizzling as we arrive at Barbara’s house. Skye comes out to help us unload and we bring in everything. Out comes the Catoo wine and with hugs all around we are home, at least for a couple of days. Jim has created a wonder-thing! It has blinking traveling lights that change color and are reflected in a variety of mirrors. It’s remarkably cool – and hard to describe. Eventually I’ll get a photo.

I get the comfy couch and have zero trouble getting to
sleep!! I don't even hear the mantle clock!

Definitely it was a long drive, but the company was great.
ReplyDeleteIndeed! So true!!
DeleteWhat s great road trip book! Just don’t get any ideas on using the razor like Razor Girl. Mellow and marvelous trip so far. Thanks for letting me hitch a ride.
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome any time!
DeleteFor a day on the road, you sure found beauty! The earth weaving got flowers later. I'll send you a picture.
ReplyDeleteI heard a photography instructor tell his students that you can always find something to shoot. Sometimes that's harder than others!! I can't wait to see the newest iteration of the earth weaving!
